Flower arrangement experience by a deputy chief priest of Choko-inn, an acting master of Misho-ryu Sasaoka






Japanese people love “Hanami”,flower viewing. People enjoy seeing Japanese plum blossoms in the early spring, cherry blossoms in the middle of spring, blue flags(Japanese irises) in early summer,and colored leaves in the autumn. They feel the air of nature and even feel the universe by seeing the flowers. Moreover, flowers and the other plants have been brought into rooms by people and deeply connected to their daily lives.
“Ikebana” meets such people’s hope that they want to be close the nature and the flowers.
In old times, Japanese thought that human is also a part of nature and various kinds of nature has gods in it. Natural creatures such as big mountains, forests and rocks were said to be the places where gods dwell and were worshiped by people. Our ancestors brought in the wild flowers and displayed them on alcoves in order to welcome gods in their house. This is said to be an origin of Ikebana.
It is essential to add buds of flowers, so that you will be able to enjoy the changes of flowers. The buds gradually begin to bloom, reaches to its peak and withers. Nature has taught many things to Japanese people through workings of human and lives of flowers.
